Design and Work Philosophy

Design Philosophy

I prefer to design from scratch. I do it for personal reasons. I think I'd be cheating myself if I didn't rise to the challenge of artistic creation and produce original, fresh work when I have the chance.

But, I recognize that many times, that's not possible, for varied reasons. A tight work schedule with a looming delivery date, a limited project budget, technical specifications or simply the nature of the project itself may not lend themselves to this sort of thing, and when that happens, it's okay. I will still do my best to ensure the final product looks and works great while using purchased modules and systems that allow for faster project execution.

When it comes to site/interface design, I strive for simplicity. My design motto is: think, clarify, simplify. I try to abide by it.

My designs follow function, and don't spread out needlessly. There is a purpose to every item on the page. Look at this site for example. I've stripped it down to its bare essentials: two columns, one for the logo, one for the content and menu. The colors are clean and chosen because they're aesthetically pleasing. The graphics are not heavy, but light and airy, and the total page weight is minimal. This is what I like to do with all the sites I design. I listen to the client's input and design a site to his or her liking, but I continually chisel away at the page elements and only keep what's absolutely needed.

Work Philosophy

I take the time needed to ensure that I deliver a quality product. I adhere to my own high standards. You will be able to judge those standards when you look at any one of my products.

You can trust me to deliver the product I promised, for the price we agreed. Ask my clients. I hope they will characterize me as trustworthy.

I will not take on morally and ethically questionable projects.

I will take on projects that involve tight deadlines, but I prefer to work on projects where I can take the time to do things right. I have found through my experience of over a decade of information technology work that rushed work is not quality work. I prefer to do quality work that stands the test of use over time. Will you be happy with the results? I think so.

I will give you an estimated completion date and will do my best to stick to it. Please realize that unforeseen delays (bugs, circumstances, issues that come up in testing, etc.) always have a way of cropping up when you least expect them, so sometimes delivery on time isn't possible. I will, however, do my best to ensure a timely delivery.
